:: Sintered and Crushed Tungsten carbide grit(Tungchip Grit)

Crushed Tungsten granules (Tungchip Grit) can be deposited in an alloy or mild steel matrix, using the GMAW (CO2/MIG) welding process. (For more information download data sheet below)

This method entails feeding the Tungchip into the molten weld pool, created by the arc.

1. The photograph above shows the excellent adhesion between the weld and the substrate. The Tungchip granules are visible, evenly spread throughout the weld.
2. The bond between matrix and WC-Co particles is excellent, as shown by the photograph above. This is due to the inter-diffusion of Fe into the particles and W into the matrix.
3. The rough surface created by the Tungchip grit assists with creating the rock box effect, resulting in material on material wear.

This method is cost effective and has been successful in a variety of ground engaging applications to provide protection against abrasive wear. This process has been used in the drilling industry, on stabilizers and hard banding of pipes since the early 1930's.

Quality

To ensure control of the quality, Speciality Metals uses state of the art equipment to verify the chemical analysis of feed stock, structure of the raw material and undertakes test, sieving and particle shape evaluation on each and ever batch. Quality is as important to us as it is to the consumer.
Every batch is certified before it leaves our plant

:: Composite Rod
Speciality Metals Composite Rods and Wear Pads contain Tungchip Tungsten Carbide grit and a CuZnNi matrix. They are designed and manufactured to the highest quality under stringent procedures.

Premium quality sintered Tungchip Tungsten Carbide chips are either rounded for wear grade rods (BBW) or sharp and blocky for cutting grade rods (BBC).

The cleanliness of the Tungsten Grit ensures excellent wetting properties and low fuming characteristics for ease of use.

:: Tubemetal
An alternative method of applying Tungchip is to use our range of electrodes. For oxy or TIG applications there is Tube Metal.

For electric there is either the DC Tube Metal with an external flux coating, or the fine particle DC Stick Electrodes. Extruded rods, containing a blend of NiCrSiB and Cast Tungsten Carbide powders are available in a variety of diameters. These rods are applied by oxy and can be supplied in cut lengths or rolls.

We also offer a range of cored wires in both nickel based or steel based alloy wires. To meet our customers requirements, we are continually developing new products. We look forward to discussing your particular application and wear problems, so we can assist you in finding a solution, and provide you with a product that will meet your requirements.

:: Tungchip Dispensing Equipment
To ensure an accurate and efficient method of controlling the volume of Tungchip deposited in the molten weld pool, our Australian designed and assembled Tungchip Dispenser has been developed to provide a smooth linear electronic variable feed control, which ensures the accurate measurement the volume of Tungchip grit delivered in to the weld pool. The unit is easily attached to a conventional GMAW system and so provides the maximum versatility to welders working with diverse surface types. Our standard unit comes with a foot pedal control, however an optional sensor switch activation is available. The dispenser can be set up on site, ensuring flexibility and portability.

:: Automated Co2 Feeder
Automated systems can be designed around your application. We look forward to identifying your particular requirements and sourcing the right equipment for your particular application.
